Shifting Midscapes

When it comes to the big night in the spotlight, women and men flock to put themselves in the hands of old-school expertise (tweaked often but with control) where timeless elegance, refinement and sheer drama are on the agenda. Welcome to the world of Valaya!

Come the next round of red-carpet evenings; expect to see JJ Valaya’s Art-inspired Spring couture collection. With influences from works of artists from across the globe, including Tamara De Lempicka, Andy Warhol, Sultan Mohammed and Salvador Dali amongst others, options for women include a slew of ladylike colorful silhouettes, some with the sheer sparkle of Swarovski as a style statement, others with finely embroidered detailing. For evenings, it could be something from a group of Nehru coats, done with three-quarter sleeves, slim, precise pants and a delicate inner piece of barely there beaded chiffon. Drama queens, meanwhile, are spoiled for choice. Will it be elements of the signature trousseau collection, the floral extravaganza or the ivory collection with a covering of antique silver?

For Men, a collection of Shirts, Gilets, Kurtas, Achkans and suits in linens, custom silks. The Stitch details, tie-dye, crushed fabric and the finest of surface embellishments are all there; just throw in the attitude, without which no outfit is complete.

It is Art, but not as we know it! Sweeping, multicolored volumes of fabric that mixed East and West, ancient and modern, spread over 5 collections running in every hue from sugared pastels to intense bolts of yellow, orange, turquoise and red to the softest of ivories.

The new and the old…in a brand new mould!
